Christy Haas-Howard, RN, MPH (she/her) is a school nurse with Denver Public Schools and the Asthma Nurse Specialist at the Colorado Department of Education (CDE). She has spent the last 17 years of her career supporting the health of children and families as a school nurse. She is nationally certified as a school nurse and asthma educator. After implementing asthma programs at the school level, her role expanded to include asthma program development at the district, state and national levels. Collaborating with CDE to deliver school-based asthma management professional learning and technical assistance to school districts around the state, she has worked with school nurses from urban, rural and frontier settings. Through presenting the asthma program, experiences and outcomes in local, state, national and international settings, she has honed her skills as a spreaker, trainer and instructional designer. Through these professional experiences, she has expanded her work into the larger public health landscape, specifically incorporating the upstream impacts of the social determinants of health on asthma. She has presented at School Nurse International, National Association of School Nurses conferences, American School Health Association conference, Colorado Association of School Nurses conferences and various other local venues.
